Collapse of a farmhouse leaves dozens of families homeless in Barrios Altos

On Friday, July 5, around nine in the morning, a wall collapsed on the fifth Virgin of Fatimalocated at Jirón La Mar 161, Barrios Altos, in the Enclosure of Lima. The collapse of this wall caused structural damage to the entire estate, which consists of 34 houses.

A young woman was trapped on the second floor after a wall collapsed. She said she had just gotten out of the shower and was changing when she became trapped in the rubble. Unfortunately, she has not been able to find her cat since the collapse.

The villa, an adobe and wattle construction over a hundred years old, was severely affected by the collapse, causing almost all residents to be unable to enter their homes.

Despite the danger, some residents tried to take out some appliances, valuables and thick clothing to protect them from the winter.

The Municipality of Lima is present at the fifth

A few hours after the collapse occurred, Lima Municipality personnel came to remove the debris that remained after the wall collapsed. In addition, they carried out reinforcement work on some walls and blocked access to the staircase leading to the second floor, where 17 apartments are located.

At night, according to América Noticias, the neighbors, unable to enter their homes, had to organize an improvised camp on the street. It should be noted that several elderly people and minors live in this place and, due to the collapse of a wall, they will have to spend the night in the inclement Lima cold.

In this regard, the residents asked for help from the mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima, Rafael Lopez Aliagato collaborate with the installation of temporary tents, while the problem of habitability of the villa is resolved Virgin of Fatima in Barrios Altos.

The collapse of the wall, which directly affected two houses and structurally damaged the fifth, did not cause any injuries. For the moment, the inhabitants of this place are calling for some kind of support to help them overcome this difficult moment of being homeless.
